Sunday Selections....

This post is part of Sunday Selections, hosted by Kim at https://frogpondsrock.com/
Kim says: "I take a lot of photos and most of them are just sitting around in folders on my desktop not doing anything. I thought that a dedicated post once a week would be a good way to share some of these photos that otherwise wouldn’t be seen by anyone other than me."

Me too, Kim, me too.

This week I'm posting a few of my all time favourites.

I'm under the impression that watermarking will mean they star my property... will someone please let me know if I'm mistaken?

If you cast your mind back to one of my very first posts, "I'm not jealous, what a shock!", I wrote about my adventures on one of my early winter morning walks with my camera.   These photos were taken around that time, not sure if it was that exact day, but for all intents and purposes lets just pretend it was...

My front yard... if you get up early enough you can catch the local mob of roos grazing near the dam.

My all time favourite. I spent at least an hour trying different settings and angles, and got some really good close ups of the wing patterns and dew drops on the fence. This one isn't the best technically, but I love how it looks more like a fairy than a dragonfly...

This image is great to play with, even with my crappy Image Editor program from the 90's. You can get so many different effects by changing the colour saturations and contrast etc. A 'farm' shot becomes a cityscape, and the trees turn into skyscrapers with neon signs.

This photo was definitely taken on the day of the Shock post, because it was the only day I took my camera all the way to the creek. I took a few shots of trees and stuff and noticed the crossed rails in one of them. Accidentally art is always the most satisfying.

Thats all for now folks, I have a whole week to plan my next release :)

  1. I really enjoy photographing spiderwebs and dragonflies as well but my dragonflies end up being very blurry. Your photos are breathtakingly beautiful, thank you.

  2. Nice things to find on your walk. I like the close-up of the web. In reference to watermarking your images, yes, it certainly deters people from 'stealing' your images though there is software that allows people to remove watermarks. I find the best thing to do is just make them low resolution. You only need 72dpi for images displayed on the internet. But make sure you save the originals in high res in case you want to print them (300dpi for colour and 150dpi for black and white). Hope that helps...

  3. Gorgeous. Sometimes I struggle with spiderwebs but you have captured them beautifully.

  4. REAL spiderwebs! with DEW! Oh they're one of my most favourite things in all the natural world and I haven't seen one in years. And I love the crossed rails.

  5. You mean it isn't a real fairy caught in the web?
Lovely photos. And I often forget to put watermarks in my photos (stupid me). Although I can't imagine someone actually wanting to use them anyway.

  7. They're all lovely, but the third one is great! I love sparkly spider webs.

They are all your property as soon as you click that shutter, the trouble is that people steal. Somehow they don't think about artistic work as 'property', so I put a copyright notice on all my blog pics too, to remind them.

Then there are people who genuinely believe that if it's not copyrighted, then it's free to take. That's not true, but for those people, a 'watermark' will prevent them being stolen. As for the others, there's nothing you can do unless you see it being used somewhere and want to take the trouble to 1) ask them to desist and/or 2) sue them. Probably not worth suing unless they're making money from it, though.

Sadly, the bottom line is that if someone wants to steal a photo from the web in the full knowledge that it's not free, they will do it .. though watermarking makes it more difficult. ;)
